Abreu vineyards is named after the founder, David Abreu who earned his reputation as one of the top vineyard managers in Napa. David Abreu followed his father and grandfather in the profession of vineyard management and has worked with countless growers in Napa. A key to the success of Abreu Vineyards is Brad Grimes, the winemaker of Abreu. It??s the combination of Brad Grimes, David Abreu and the vineyards that produce one of the top wines from Napa, year after year Stylistically, the wine is elegant, balanced and refined, yet it possess copious amounts of perfectly ripe fruit and silky tannins.

Cappella is one of the oldest vineyard sites in St. Helena. Six acres that sit alongside a Catholic cemetery on the west side of town, it was first planted in 1869. In the 1980s the church asked David to tear out the old vines, then he watched as the land lay fallow for close to two decades. When he finally got the chance to replant, he jumped. He'd tasted fruit from Cappella in the 70s. He knew what kind of wine it could make. But that first replant was ill-fated thanks to diseased rootstock, and once again he was ripping out vines. ??It took us six years before we had a crop. We could have ignored it, pulled the vines out one by one as they collapsed. But then we'd have all these different ripening patterns, which would impact consistency. It was an easy decision.??

98?Vinous

A deep, inky wine, the 2013 Cappella presents an exotic, beguiling melange of lavender, smoke, violets, mint and spices. Darker and less immediate than the 2012 tasted alongside it, the 2013 is crystalline in its purity and sense of translucency. This is one of the most finessed, understated wines I have tasted from Abreu. All the elements are in the right place. The 2013 Cappella is 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot and 6% Merlot. Rating 95-98.
96?Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Cappella, which usually has at least 35-30% Cabernet Franc in it, looks absolutely fabulous now that the 2013 Cappella is finally in bottle. They only made about 206 cases of it, so it??s a small cuv?e from this vineyard on the back streets of St. Helena. It displays sweet espresso notes, loads of white chocolate, blackberry, Asian spice and incense. It is full-bodied and opulent, with the tannins surprisingly silky and well-disguised, which is somewhat unusual in this vintage of extraordinary power and density. This is a 35- to 50-year wine.
