A fresh and balanced effort from the Haut-Medoc, the 2014 Cantemerle is very appealing with its red and black forest-berries and mid-palate weight. It is a simple, straightforward wine that will not disappoint.
Rated 94 points by James Suckling: //I like the floral character, which highlights the aromas of currants and berries. Full body and a firm and tight center palate. Silky tannins and a savory and creamy-textured finish. A beautifully balanced red. Try in 2021, but it’s already gorgeous to taste. // Rated 90-93 points by Antonio Galloni – Vinous: //The 2014 Cantemerle is complete, beautiful and highly expressive. Tobacco, new leather, menthol, cloves, earthiness are all laced together, but it is the wine's exceptional balance that stands out most. The 2014 finishes with notable energy and an invigorating sense of freshness. I won't be surprised if the 2014 comes towards the higher end of this range once bottled. // Rated 90-92 points by Jeff Leve: //Opening with sweet, ripe aromas of flowers, black and red fruits, espresso and earth, the wine offers silky tannins, notes of sweet, ripe dark red fruits with a soft, forward edge to the finish. // Rated 90 points by Wine Spectator: //Right and racy, with red currant and plum fruit lined with a lively tang of iron that streaks through the finish. A touch taut, but should unwind nicely with modest cellaring. // Rated 88 points by Wine Advocate: //The 2014 Cantemerle has a conservative, cedar and graphite-tinged bouquet that needs to develop more fruité. It is focused but just needs more intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin on the entry. Clean red berry fruit here with moderate weight, leading to a slightly chewy finish that will hopefully evolve more nuance and personality with time. To be honest, I was expecting a little more considering the vintage. //
