The Gagliardo family has been deeply rooted in the history of cultivating grapes and producing wines in Piemonte, one of the most prestigious wine regions, since 1848. The Gagliardo ancestors, the Colla family, initially began producing Moscato from Santo Stefano Belbo. Then the next generation of the family moved to Diano d’Alba producing Dolcetto, and finally Paolo Colla bought a small farm and vineyard in La Morra in the Barolo region and started producing Barolo wine with the care and attention that only a great passion and respect for the land can provide.
Today, the passion of Gianni’s three sons represent the “power unit” of the winery, and they are all fully committed to making exceptional wines. Their handcrafted approach is traditional, with a focus on the environment and sustainability. Each and every phase of production is meticulously executed. Stefano is one of the premier winemakers in Barolo. At his side, his brother Alberto, has taken on the responsibility for the vineyards, continually seeking to obtain outstanding results following the most sustainable organic practices. Paolo, the third son, with a degree in Agricultural Sciences, is in charge of daily winery operations
The 2017 vintage has been warm and dry. The slight vegetative advance coincided with a particularly intense spring frost that affected many parts of Europe. This was the first cause of quantity decrease. The scarcity of rainfall was the second cause. At a physiological level the plants have exploited the little rain at the beginning of September to the fullest, and therefore berries on average smaller and more concentrated than usual have well matured.
It's called "Rosina" and is a very pleasant Barbera d'Asti by Tenuta Garetto. A simple and immediate wine made from grapes harvested from the company's youngest vineyards. A particularly drinkable Barbera, which is obtained without the detour via wood, but with a simple aging period in an inert container. The result is a wine that is characterized by a beautiful and lively ruby red color. Fresh and fragrant notes of red fruits on the nose with pleasant vegetal notes. In the mouth it reveals its freshness, well supported by a lively acidity that is very typical of the vine. Overall, however, it is well balanced and has a pleasantly vinous finish.
"There's a complex, dark-herb and ash undertone to this Barbera, which also suggests fresh blackberries and lavender. Medium-bodied and restrained on the palate with silky tannins and soft fruit. Sweet-and-sour finish."- 92 points James Suckling.
