Coriole was founded by Lloyd family in 1967 on hills overlooking the McLaren Vale. The original farmhouses were built in 1860 and are now the epicentre of the garden and cellar door at the winery.
Shiraz is the great tradition of McLaren Vale going back over 150 years, the oldest Shiraz forming part of the estate planting dates back to 1917. It is the major variety planted on the estate and for this variety that Coriole is best known. Coriole has been an Australian pioneer of Sangiovese and Italian varieties since 1985 and the Australian leading journalist and wine critic James Halliday who awarded the winery a 5 star rating – the highest honor
