Picked at 120° Oechsle (which would have classified for Beerenauslese), the intensely yellow-golden 2011 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese (Gold Capsule) opens with deep and exuberant, rich and aromatic but also spicy-piquant and precise Riesling fruit that perfectly intertwines very fine slate aromas. Lush and mouth-tickling on the palate, this is an utterly generous but salty and salivating Auslese of great class and style. The wine is incredibly juicy but also so highly stimulating that all of a sudden you don't want to share the bottle if you can't share your whole stock. It is a bit like listening to fine music with the iPod Pros but you discover you cannot share the great feeling of perfect sound. Natural cork.
